From Vision to Reality: TESSR's Creation - The Animation Task Master

🚀 TESSR's story began in early 2021, when a group of passionate visionaries sought to support artists, animators and creative supervisors amidst the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

As many animation studios transitioned to remote work, communication gaps and organisational challenges surfaced. Managing creative teams of animators, background artists and riggers proved complicated. Coordinating efficient and effective creative iterations across remote teams while ensuring the use of latest updates, including the review process, added another layer of complexity. Monitoring the overall animation progress and individual scenes statuses, while transferring files back and forth, demanded seamless collaboration and documentation.

To address these needs, we held brainstorming sessions in the early quarters of 2021, listening carefully to artists, supervisors, production coordinators, and producers. This inspired the team to envision a platform that not only simplified the complexities of project management but also catered to the specific needs of creative professionals. With these valuable insights, the framework for TESSR was born.

Creative people are visual people, and we knew that our main design principle had to be a simple, user-friendly, and visually appealing tool that prioritised the needs of the user above all else. Inspired by our name, TESSR, originating from the word “Tessera” meaning tile, we adopted a tile-based interface, geometrically shaped to resonate with the creative industry’s appreciation for aesthetics. Furthermore, our goal became clearer that we wanted to provide a centralised platform for creatives to collaborate and communicate, share project updates and manage creative projects. We believe that this adaptability would allow teams to remain connected, organised, and productive, regardless of their working conditions.

In late 2021, development began, and by mid-2022, the first version of TESSR was brought to life and went through internal testing. With every line of code and every design choice, we imbued TESSR with a lively spirit that resonated with users. In the third quarter of 2022, the doors to TESSR were opened to early adopters, marking a significant milestone. Feedback from early adopters and continuous iterations shaped TESSR into the dynamic, people-centered Animation Task Master it is today.

During the COVID-19 endemic, TESSR started to prove to be a valuable asset in enabling remote studio management. However, its value extends beyond pandemic times. Efficient project communication, work assignment, and status updates remain crucial, whether teams are working from home, in the office, or in a hybrid setup. 💪 🧑‍🎨
